Monique Billings was a surprise addition to the Indiana Fever's injury report for the Portland Fire game on Friday. The veteran forward performed well in their previous outing and did not appear to get hurt.
She recorded a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double in 30 minutes of action in the 105-95 win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. Billings stepped up big time after Aliyah Boston exited the game in the second quarter due to a knee injury.
The good news is that Billings is listed as probable, along with Boston. Caitlin Clark is also on the report but has the same designation as the frontcourt duo.
The Fever submitted their official injury report on Thursday night.
Billings' development could raise concerns for her availability as the season progresses. She plays a big role in Indiana's rotation, providing hustle and an interior presence.
The team takes a cautious approach to its players' injuries, and it would be interesting to see whether she misses some games later in the campaign. Billings averages 7.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists this year.
Meanwhile, Boston hit her knee hard on the floor versus the Storm and did not return. She played only 11 minutes but finished with 11 points and two rebounds. It's a good sign that she is probable to play, proving that she did not sustain a serious injury.
Clark, on the other hand, continues to deal with a lingering back issue. The Fever previously managed her minutes to avoid a reaggravation. They will need Clark to be healthy as Indiana has its sights set on a deeper postseason run and potentially winning a championship.
