The Indiana Fever ended a two-game skid with a win over the Chicago Sky today but it came amid a slew of controversies, not the least of which was a number of technical fouls that will leave Caitlin Clark's team shorthanded against the New York Liberty next week.
Clark had another superb game, logging 26 points and 11 assists for yet another double-double along with four rebounds, two steals and a block in the 90-86 win. The bad news is she also picked up her eighth technical foul and as a result will be forced to sit out for Indiana's August 11 game against the Liberty. The technical came after Clark accidentally hit a referee while stumbling out of bounds on a play.
Fever head coach Stephanie White was furious with the call and gave that referee a piece of her mind. Unfortunately, she also received a technical foul and will also be suspended for the Liberty game.
Speaking to the media after the game, White said that she will appeal the technical fouls. But she also lambasted the officials for a lack of "awareness in those moments."
"She intentionally seeked out the official. That's what I was told. My tech was for saying that's (expletive). Even though I heard the F-bomb the whole (expletive) game. That's a bad call. Officials have to have some awareness in those moments and it didn't happen."

Ironically, the suspensions for Clark and White might not even end up being the most controversial moments of the night.
That same game saw Fever star Sophie Cunningham fouled hard by DiJonai Carrington, which resulted in a flagrant-2 and ejection for Carrington. The Sky star had some choice words for Cunningham and the Fever afterwards on Threads.
