Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza put the finishing touches on his 2025 season this Monday night by leading his team to a 27-21 win over Miami in the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Mendoza was sensational nearly every single game for the Hoosiers, which is why he won the Heisman Trophy. Although he took a beating from the Hurricanes this Monday, he got his signature moment in the fourth quarter when he had a 12-yard rushing touchdown.

After being named the CFP National Championship Game Offensive MVP, Mendoza had the chance to celebrate at midfield with his family. ESPN's camera crew caught him embracing his mother, Elsa.

Roughly 18 years ago, Elsa Mendoza was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Although she needs a wheelchair, that doesn't stop her from showing up to Fernando's games.

With that being said, fans thought it was beautiful that Elsa and Fernando shared a moment together at Hard Rock Stadium.

"Fernando Mendoza I was rooting for him cuz of his story praying for his mom I’m glad she got to see him win," one fan said.

"I don’t care who you are or what team you root for. That Mendoza family moment with Fernando hugging and talking to his mom after the game is all time," a second fan commented.

"What a great kid.. goes to his Mom… I’m glad Mendoza got the championship," another fan wrote.

Mendoza's inspiration.

After Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy in December, he gave his mother a beautiful shoutout during his acceptance speech.

“Mami, this is your trophy as much as it is mine. You’ve always been my biggest fan. You’re my light, you’re my ‘why,’ you’re my biggest supporter,” Mendoza said. “Your sacrifices, courage, love, those have been my first playbook and that playbook that I’m going to carry by my side for my entire life. You taught me that toughness doesn’t need to be loud. It can be quiet and strong. It’s choosing hope. It’s believing in yourself when the world doesn’t give you much reason to. Together, you and I are rewriting what people think is possible. I love you.”

There's no question that Mendoza's parents are proud of everything he's accomplished.

Now that Mendoza has wrapped up his Indiana career, he can turn his attention over to the NFL Draft. The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to select him with the No. 1 pick.
