The Las Vegas Raiders spent the No. 1 overall pick on Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza after Las Vegas went 3-14 in 2025. After finishing last in the NFL in points and yards, Vegas hired Klint Kubiak as head coach and entered this draft still searching for a long-term answer under center after sending Geno Smith to the New York Jets via trade. The team added veteran Kirk Cousins, but the larger plan always pointed to taking the top quarterback in the class.

Mendoza gives the Raiders a quarterback with size, accuracy, and poise. He stands 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, gets the ball out on time, throws with accurate placement, and brings enough mobility to extend plays or pick up first downs. His 2025 season at Indiana backed that profile: 3,535 passing yards, 41 touchdown passes, six interceptions, 444 rushing yards, and seven rushing scores on the way to the Heisman Trophy and a national title.

He also lands in a better fantasy setup than many rookie quarterbacks do. Brock Bowers already gives Las Vegas an elite tight end, and sophomore running back Ashton Jeanty provides a versatile bell cow to help ease Mendoza along. At wide receiver, things start looking sideways. Tre Tucker and newcomer Jalen Nailor are the most experienced of this group, and the Raiders will hope to get more from last year's rookies, Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr. Look for the franchise to draft someone to grow with Mendoza.

Fernando Mendoza Fantasy Football Outlook for 2026

In single-QB redraft leagues, treat Mendoza as a watchlist name or a last-round bench flier until training camp and early-season usage become clearer. In all likelihood, Cousins will open the year atop the depth chart as Kubiak openly wanted a veteran to start. Mendoza should learn behind him and eventually get a crack at starting if the playoffs are out of reach.

Should he assume the starting gig in 2026, Mendoza is a must-add in superflex and two-QB leagues. The No. 1 overall draft investment and modest rushing contribution make him worth a late-round stash with QB2 upside once he takes over. We'll keep tabs on this situation during the offseason and check back as needed, but there's some promise here for sporadic fantasy use if the Raiders add at least one more capable aerial target.
