Free agency has begun, and here's the good news: You don't need to follow every signing.

You just need to know which ones actually change your fantasy draft board.

Every July, fantasy managers get flooded with transaction alerts. Veterans switch teams. Bench players get paid. Depth charts get shuffled.

Most of it won't matter much once the season starts.

But a handful of decisions? Those can move a player two or three rounds on your draft board.

These are the questions I'll be watching most over the next few days.

Does Norman Powell Stay in Miami?

Norman Powell could determine Miami's offensive spacing and multiple fantasy values through his free agency decision.

Sam Navarro-Imagn Images

The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade dominated the headlines.

Norman Powell may wind up having just as much influence on Miami's fantasy outlook.

After all, Giannis is at his best when defenses have to respect shooters around him. Powell provides exactly that. If Miami brings him back, the Heat suddenly have the spacing to maximize both Giannis and Bam Adebayo.

If Powell leaves without a comparable replacement, things get trickier.

I'm not moving Giannis out of the first round under any circumstances. But if Miami can't replace Powell's shooting, I'd probably slide Giannis down a few spots in points leagues.

As for Adebayo, I'd be a little more cautious, too. His assists may climb playing alongside Giannis, but spacing is everything for that pairing.

This is one of those moves that affects more than one fantasy star.

Where Does Jonathan Kuminga Go?

Now here's a fun one.

The Hawks declined Jonathan Kuminga's option, sending one of the league's most gifted young forwards into free agency.

Talent has never been the question. Opportunity has.

If Kuminga lands somewhere that gives him 34 minutes a night and lets him attack offensively, we're suddenly talking about someone who could dramatically outperform his ADP.

If he joins another crowded rotation?

Fantasy managers will probably spend another season wondering why the production never quite matches the talent.

Sometimes a player's biggest breakout isn't about improving. It's about finally finding the right fit.

Can Walker Kessler Find the Right Fit?

Walker Kessler could become one offseason's biggest fantasy risers with the right starting opportunity available.

Rob Gray-Imagn Images

Not every fantasy breakout comes from a high-volume scorer.

Walker Kessler can win categories almost by himself. Blocks. Rebounds. Field-goal percentage. Those aren't always flashy stats, but they're league-winning stats.

If Kessler lands somewhere that hands him a starting job and 30-plus minutes, he'll become one of the biggest ADP risers of the offseason.

If he signs with a contender where he's splitting minutes? That's a completely different fantasy conversation.

The ability is already there. Now we're waiting on the situation.

What Does LeBron Decide?

LeBron James remains fantasy's biggest ripple-effect player regardless of where his free agency ultimately concludes.

Gary A. Vasquez-Imagn Images

LeBron James still casts a massive shadow over the fantasy landscape.

If he stays with the Lakers, the fantasy outlook around Luka Doncic and the rest of Los Angeles' roster remains fairly stable.

If he leaves? Touches get redistributed. Roles expand. Somebody suddenly becomes much more attractive on draft day.

LeBron's own fantasy value obviously matters. The ripple effects throughout the roster may matter even more.

Does Charlotte Build Around Coby White?

The stunning LaMelo Ball trade to Minnesota changed everything in Charlotte. Now comes the next question.

Is Coby White the answer at point guard?

If Charlotte commits to him as its lead playmaker, White suddenly becomes much more interesting in fantasy drafts because the ball will be in his hands more often.

But his value depends almost entirely on his role. White has proven he can score. Still, you might want to wait with this one, just to see what his role will be beyond that.

What Happens With Tari Eason?

Tari Eason isn't drawing the same attention as some of the bigger free agents. But he probably deserves more.

Houston already has plenty of talent fighting for minutes, and Eason's restricted free agency could reshape that rotation.

If the Rockets keep him, fantasy managers will still have to sort through a crowded frontcourt.

If another team lands him? His fantasy stock could climb in a hurry simply because the path to consistent minutes becomes much cleaner.

Opportunity creates fantasy value. Eason has plenty of talent already.

Can Jalen Duren Find a Bigger Role?

Jalen Duren has become one of the more fascinating names to watch after reports that contract talks with Detroit remain stalled while meetings with the Kings and Lakers are lining up.

That's a fantasy storyline.

If Duren stays with the Pistons, managers know roughly what they're getting.

If he lands somewhere that features him more prominently, though, his rebound and double-double potential becomes a lot more intriguing.

Big men who consistently produce efficient scoring, rebounds and blocks don't stay hidden for long.

Duren could wind up being one of free agency's biggest fantasy winners.

My Free Agency Watch List

If I'm ranking the biggest fantasy questions over the next few days, here's my order:

Player Fantasy takeaway

Jonathan Kuminga

The right landing spot could completely reshape his fantasy outlook.

Norman Powell

His decision affects Giannis and Bam as much as himself.

Walker Kessler

A starting job could make him one of the steals of fantasy draft season.

LeBron James

His decision reshapes an entire roster.

Coby White

Charlotte's backcourt could look completely different.

Tari Eason

A sneaky breakout candidate depending on where he plays.

Jalen Duren

One of the most underrated big-man storylines of free agency.

Some Moves Are Bigger Than Others

Free agency isn't about reacting to every headline. It's about recognizing the handful of moves that actually change fantasy basketball.

Jonathan Kuminga could finally land in the featured role many have been waiting to see. Norman Powell could determine how dangerous Miami's new-look offense becomes. Walker Kessler could find the starting opportunity that unlocks his fantasy ceiling.

The headlines will come fast. Just remember that not every signing deserves your attention.

The ones that change your draft board? Now those are the ones worth following.

Questions About Free Agency, Answered

What are the biggest fantasy basketball questions that free agency will answer?
The biggest questions center on whether Norman Powell stays in Miami, where Jonathan Kuminga and Walker Kessler land, what LeBron James decides, whether Charlotte builds around Coby White, what happens with Tari Eason, and whether Jalen Duren finds a larger role. Each outcome has the potential to reshape fantasy draft values over the next several days.

Does Norman Powell re-signing with Miami affect Giannis Antetokounmpo's fantasy value?
Yes. Powell's shooting helps create the spacing that allows Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo to thrive together. If Miami keeps Powell, Giannis remains comfortably in the first round. If Powell leaves without a comparable replacement, Giannis could slide a few spots in points leagues because of a less favorable offensive environment.

What is Walker Kessler's fantasy value in 2026-27 free agency?
Walker Kessler's fantasy outlook depends heavily on his landing spot. A starting role with 30-plus minutes would make him one of the offseason's biggest ADP risers because of his rebounding, shot blocking, and field-goal percentage. A reserve role on a contender would significantly reduce his fantasy appeal.

Where does Coby White sign in 2026 NBA free agency?
Charlotte's direction with Coby White is one of the key situations to monitor. If the Hornets make him their lead playmaker after the LaMelo Ball trade, his fantasy value rises because of increased ball-handling responsibility. His draft value ultimately depends on the role he receives once free agency unfolds.
