If your fantasy basketball draft were held today, there are a handful of NBA teams I'd approach with extreme caution.
Not because they're bad. Because we still don't know what they're going to look like.
The NBA Draft is over. Free agency is around the corner. Trade talks are heating up. And while some teams already have a pretty clear identity, others are still putting together the puzzle.
For fantasy managers, that's important.
Drafting players from unsettled rosters isn't necessarily wrong. You just need to understand you're buying uncertainty along with the talent.
To me, only a few teams truly fit that description. These are the ones I'd be watching closest between now and August.
Washington Wizards

The Talent Is Obvious. The Rotation Isn't.
The Wizards may have had the busiest offseason in the NBA. They already landed Trae Young.
Anthony Davis is expected to be healthy, though fantasy managers know that's never something you simply assume.
Then they added No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa.
That's quite a foundation. It's also a roster with a lot of questions.
How quickly does Dybantsa become a featured scorer? How much offense still runs through Young? Can Davis stay healthy enough to anchor the frontcourt? And what happens to the rest of the young core?
Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly and several other promising players suddenly find themselves competing for touches instead of simply competing for minutes.
That's why I'd be careful assigning firm fantasy values right now.
As we've already discussed in which 2026 draft prospects landed in the best fantasy situations, Dybantsa's opportunity looks outstanding.
Everyone else's? Not quite as clear.

Cameron Boozer Arrives as the Ja Morant Questions Continue
No team feels more difficult to project than Memphis.
The Grizzlies selected Cameron Boozer with the third overall pick, giving themselves another potential franchise cornerstone.
At the same time, they're still exploring the trade market for Ja Morant. Maybe he stays. Maybe he doesn't.
Either outcome dramatically changes the fantasy picture. If Morant remains, Boozer develops alongside an established star. If Morant is moved, Boozer could become part of an entirely different timeline.
I'd also keep a close eye on whoever ends up handling more of the offensive creation if Memphis eventually moves Morant.
Sometimes the biggest fantasy winner in a blockbuster trade isn't the player getting traded. It's the teammate who suddenly inherits more opportunities.
Milwaukee Bucks
A New Era Officially Begins
This one is a little easier now.
The Giannis Antetokounmpo era is over.
Milwaukee officially pushed the reset button by acquiring Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis and a mountain of draft picks from Miami.
That's exciting. It's also unpredictable.
Herro instantly becomes one of the biggest fantasy winners of the trade simply because he'll have every opportunity to carry the offense.
Ware's role becomes fascinating. So does Jaquez's. The Bucks may not be done, either.
Rebuilding teams rarely stop after making one blockbuster move.
That's why Milwaukee still belongs on this list. The roster looks dramatically different today than it did a week ago. It may look different again by August.
New Orleans Pelicans

One Trade Could Change Everything
If there's one team quietly flying under the radar, it's New Orleans.
The Pelicans still have Zion Williamson. They still have Dejounte Murray. For now.
Trey Murphy III continues to surface in trade discussions. So does Herbert Jones. Yves Missi has generated interest as well.
Move one of those players and the rotation changes.
Move two or three? Now you're talking about a completely different basketball team.
That's why New Orleans deserves to be monitored every bit as closely as Washington or Memphis.
The talent is there. The certainty isn't.
How Fantasy Managers Should Handle These Teams
Here's my rule: Every offseason has rumors. Not every offseason has complete roster overhauls.
Those are different things.
To me, a team qualifies as "too unsettled" only when I can't confidently answer two questions:
Who's starting? Who's getting the shots?
If I don't know those answers, I'm probably not drafting those players at full value.
That doesn't mean avoiding them. It means building uncertainty into the price.
Washington. Memphis. Milwaukee. New Orleans.
Those are the four teams I'd continue watching throughout July. By August, most of the picture should come into focus.
Until then, I'd resist the temptation to treat today's depth charts as permanent. The NBA has a funny way of changing everything in a hurry.
The Only Certainty Is Uncertainty
Fantasy managers spend a lot of time studying players.
Sometimes it's the teams that deserve just as much attention.
Washington is building around Trae Young, Anthony Davis and AJ Dybantsa. Memphis still has a Ja Morant situation hanging over everything. Milwaukee has entered an entirely new era after trading Giannis. And New Orleans may not be finished making moves.
By August, all four rosters could look very different than they do today.
The fantasy managers who keep up with those changes instead of relying on last season's assumptions will have a much better chance of finding value on draft night.
