This season of “College GameDay” marks the first in its 40-year existence that Lee Corso won’t be part of the crew. That’s a sad fact that fans around the country don’t want to accept.
Corso joined “College GameDay” during its inception in 1987 and helped turn the show into must-see TV. His headgear picks always closed off the show in style, as the charismatic analyst constantly found a way to bring humor and knowledge to ESPN’s set. For what it’s worth, he finished his headgear picks with a 287-114 record.
“The one thing I think Lee Corso did — and he did it with such grace — is he brought entertainment to this business,” Saban said, via On3. “We used to just watch games, and people would call the game. But he made it entertaining, which is what you do and what we all have an opportunity to do for the fans. He made it better for the fans. It was more enjoyable. He’s got a great personality. What he did for the entertainment side of this business, to me, is his greatest contribution to college sports. I don’t think people fully realize the value of that.”

During this Saturday’s episode of “College GameDay,” fans made it clear they still miss seeing Corso on TV. Some fans were hoping he’d make an appearance since its the 500th show on the road.
“I miss seeing Lee Corso,” one fan commented.
“It’s gonna be hard not seeing Lee Corso up there no more,” a second fan wrote.
“We are about to have our first FULL season without Lee Corso on College Gameday… Man he will be missed,” another fan said.
What is Coach Corso up to?
A few weeks ago, Kirk Herbstreit met up with Corso while in Florida. He said his longtime colleague is doing well at the age of 91.
“Was great to see The Sunshine Scooter this evening in Orlando,” Herbstreit wrote. “Needless to say I lost that battle. He drove over through a thunderstorm and we spent some time together. Was SO GOOD to see him and share a few laughs and get some advice that he can only provide. He looks and sounds amazing! Love ya LC!!”
Herbstreit also shared a photo of Corso that’ll make every fan of his smile.
