Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals was pretty thrilling.
The Golden State Valkyries hosted the Atlanta Dream at Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Finals. The Valkyries topped the Dream in a close game, winning 68-64. Golden State was powered by Gabby Williams, who scored 26 points in the Game 1 victory.
Game 2 is set for Monday night in Golden State, before the series will shift to Atlanta. Game 1 was packed and Game 2 should be, too.
But some fans in attendance claim that things quickly turned “ugly.”
Four women, attending the game as activists to protest transgender athletes in women’s sports, apparently got into it with other members of the crowd.
“4 women’s sports activists were told to kill themselves, cussed out, & flipped off by Valkyries fans at Game 1 of the WNBA Finals in San Francisco. A few fans tried to get them ejected. The WNBA should condemn these fans actions,” Fox News reported.
Jennifer Sey, a female activist with an anti-transgender athletes brand, spoke out on social media.
“The entire first half of the game was fun and pleasant. No one cared that we were there. We were talking to our seat neighbors and enjoying. Then in the 2nd half someone decided we should be kicked out. For a t-shirt. I didn’t capture the half of it. There were so many more people screaming in our faces and saying we should kill ourselves,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“Security did not kick us out. They talked to us because another attendee complained. But they talked to her too for harassing us. After the talk they let us go back to our seats and watch the end of the game. Never asked us to cover up. The talking to was dumb, but at the end of the day, we were left to watch the end of the game, as it should be. Perhaps the WNBA has learned that censoring doesn’t win them any points.”
Former NBA forward Enes Kanter has announced that he plans on attending Game 3 in Atlanta, which could spark more crowd controversy.
The WNBA obviously doesn’t want any of this to overshadow the great basketball taking place during the WNBA Finals.
