Weather conditions could play a minor role during the 2026 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix weekend at Melbourne’s Albert Park Circuit, with forecasts pointing to a slight chance of rain earlier in the event before improving conditions for race day.

According to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, Saturday, March 07, carries a low 25% chance of at least 1mm of rain, with a light shower most likely during the morning or early afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to range between 16°C and 21°C, with moderate southerly winds increasing to around 20–30 km/h during the middle of the day before easing later in the evening.

The forecast comes after teams already completed their first on-track sessions on Friday, with the opening practice outing seeing several drivers encounter early issues before the field returned for a second practice session later in the day.

While the rain risk remains relatively small, even a brief shower could influence qualifying sessions depending on when it arrives.

Weather Conditions for Race Day at Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit

Race day conditions on March 08 currently look far more stable. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts partly cloudy skies with a 95% chance of no rain for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.

Temperatures are expected to range between 14°C and 26°C, providing warm conditions for the season-opening race. Meanwhile, the Winds are predicted to blow from the south to southeast at 15–25 km/h, becoming lighter later in the evening.

The broader forecast indicates a high-pressure ridge over southern Victoria, which is expected to help stabilize weather conditions across the Melbourne region as the weekend progresses.

Teams will still keep a close eye on conditions following Friday’s running, where drivers gathered early data during Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 2 ahead of the season opener.

With dry weather currently favored for race day and only a slight rain threat earlier in the weekend, teams are unlikely to face major weather disruptions as Formula 1 begins its 2026 championship campaign.
