The 2026 Belgian Grand Prix is a critical moment in the Formula 1 season. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli has seen his once commanding lead dwindle after two bad weekends in his last three races. Mercedes remains in first place in both championships, but the pressure is on them as Ferrari and McLaren are closing in.
At Spa-Francorchamps, confidence, precision, and bravery have always been rewarded. Belgium may be one of the most interesting races in the title battle leading into the summer break of Formula 1, with the weather forecast for the weekend being uncertain.
Antonelli, Russell Remain the Favorite, But Leclerc Is Closing In
Mercedes is coming into Belgium with the best overall package, having won seven of the first nine Grand Prix. Antonelli is still leading the pack with 179 points, followed by teammate George Russell (154) and Lewis Hamilton (147), who has been improving steadily over the past few races.
Hamilton, on the other hand, is at one of his best circuits. The Ferrari driver has won five Belgian Grands Prix, and if he wins again, he will tie Michael Schumacher's Spa record of six victories. Charles Leclerc is also coming into the weekend with a smile on his face after his win at Silverstone.

McLaren has made a major rear-wing change for Spa, but Lando Norris' 10-place grid drop may make it difficult for the team to fight for the win. Oscar Piastri also has a challenge ahead of him as McLaren is hoping to turn better pace into top results.
Belgian GP Podium Prediction
Spa has always been a place where veteran drivers who can adjust to the conditions and tactics can excel, and this year's event is no exception.
Predicted podium
- 1. Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)
- 2. Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)
- 3. George Russell (Mercedes)
Don't underestimate Charles Leclerc, who has the potential to go head-to-head with the winner if Ferrari is in the same form as in recent races. Max Verstappen is still an outside threat at one of his favourite tracks, but Red Bull has not been as consistent as Mercedes and Ferrari this season.
The Belgian Grand Prix could be a pivotal race in the 2026 title battle as Antonelli attempts to defend a dwindling championship lead and Hamilton aims to close the gap on the top two.
