Spain continue their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a semifinal clash against France. La Roja have been the tournament's best defensive team, conceding just one goal so far.
They also enjoyed a perfect group stage, topping their group before defeating Austria and Portugal in the Round of 32 and Round of 16, respectively.
One of Spain's biggest success stories at this World Cup has been right back Pedro Porro. The Tottenham Hotspur defender began the tournament as an unused substitute but has since made the position his own.
Porro has played every minute of Spain's knockout-stage matches and scored his first international goal in the 3-0 Round of 32 victory over Austria.
As Spain prepares to take on France, here's a look at Porro's life away from the soccer field.
Pedro Porro's Parents and Ethnicity
Pedro Porro was born on September 13, 1999, to Luis and Eva Porro.
He is of Spanish heritage, with his family and upbringing deeply rooted in the Extremadura region of western Spain.
Porro's father worked as a builder, while his mother worked at a local supermarket to help support the family in Don Benito.
Because of their demanding work schedules, Porro and his brother, Victor, were primarily raised by their maternal grandparents, Antonio Sauceda and María del Carmen.
His grandfather had a major influence on his life. In one interview, the 26-year-old recalled a quote his grandfather often told him.
"Let me loose in a prison and I'll end up owning the place."
"That phrase was something my grandfather taught me, and that's why I say it," Porro said. "It's not necessarily a bad thing, this spirit. It's a winning spirit as well. It can be positive within the game. It's been part of me since I started."

That fighting mentality is also reflected in how Porro speaks about his childhood experiences and how it shaped his perception of working hard.
"It's something I have always said, since I was small, I have had to fight for everything. You had to be tough in my house. Often there wasn't any food. I know others have that situation too, but that is how it was. That is why I have had to be tough. If you want something in life, you have to fight for it."
Who Is Pedro Porro's Girlfriend? Is He Married?
Pedro Porro is not married, but he is in a long-term relationship with María Hurtado. The couple has been publicly linked since late 2023 or early 2024.
They welcomed their first child together, a son, in September 2025. Porro also helps raise Hurtado's daughter from a previous relationship.
Pedro Porro's Siblings
The Spain international has one brother, Victor Porro.
The two brothers were raised together by their maternal grandparents in Don Benito while their parents worked long hours to provide for the family.
