11th seed Frances Tiafoe has put together an impressive run at the 2026 US Open to reach the quarterfinals.
The American began his campaign with a five-set battle against Martin Damm Jr., eventually securing a 6–4, 4–6, 3–6, 6–3, 6–4 victory.
Tiafoe then defeated Rei Sakamoto in straight sets, 6–3, 7–6, 7–5, at Louis Armstrong Stadium before following it up with another straight-sets win over 22nd seed Valentin Vacherot, 6–4, 6–2, 6–4.
His biggest statement came in the fourth round, when he defeated former US Open champion and No. 7 seed Daniil Medvedev. The victory extended Tiafoe’s perfect career record at Louis Armstrong Stadium to 10–0 and secured his place in the final eight.
While Tiafoe’s performances on the court have attracted plenty of attention, his personal life and family background have also been a subject of interest among tennis fans.

Tiafoe’s longtime girlfriend is Ayan Broomfield, a Canadian content creator, social media influencer and former collegiate tennis player who won an NCAA doubles championship at UCLA.
The couple reportedly began dating around 2015 and went public with their relationship in 2018.

Broomfield is regularly seen supporting Tiafoe from his player’s box during major tournaments. Beyond her relationship with the tennis star, she has built a career in fashion and media and has also worked as a tennis body double for actress Saniyya Sidney (who played Venus Williams) in the 2021 movie King Richard.
She has also used her platform to advocate for greater diversity and representation in tennis.

Tiafoe was born to Constant “Frances Sr.” Tiafoe and Alphina Kamara, who emigrated from Sierra Leone to the United States in the 1990s after fleeing the civil war in their home country.
His father initially worked as a day laborer before becoming the head of maintenance at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland. His mother, Alphina, worked as a nurse.
Tiafoe also has a twin brother, Franklin Tiafoe.
The Tiafoe family has Sierra Leonean roots, while Frances Tiafoe is an American citizen.

Frances Tiafoe’s current head coach is sports scientist and biomechanics expert Dr. Mark Kovacs, who took over the role ahead of the 2026 season.
Tiafoe brought Kovacs onto his team after making changes following a challenging 2025 season. The two have known each other since Tiafoe was 12, when Kovacs worked with the USTA. His approach focuses heavily on Tiafoe’s daily training routines, physical preparation, and the biomechanics of his game.
Before Kovacs, Tiafoe worked with several notable figures in tennis. He partnered with David Witt from mid-2024 through October 2025.
His previous coaches also include Diego Moyano, who worked with him in 2024, former world No. 6 Wayne Ferreira, who coached him from 2020 to 2023, and longtime junior mentor Misha Kouznetsov.
