Sheamus is now a free agent after his WWE contract officially expired on October 1, 2026, ending his 20-year run with the company. The former WWE Champion has already made it clear that he is open to whatever comes next, and AEW is among the possible destinations after reports of interest from the promotion.
Sheamus, now using his real name S. Farrelly, confirmed earlier this year that he would be leaving WWE after deciding not to extend his contract. His WWE profile was moved to the alumni section in July, bringing an end to a run that began in 2006.
The Irish star won the WWE Championship three times, the World Heavyweight Championship once, and held the United States Championship three times. He also became a multi-time Tag Team Champion.
Farrelly’s final WWE match came on November 17, 2025, when he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day on RAW. He later underwent shoulder surgery and was removed from the Last Time Is Now tournament.
With his WWE contract now expired, Farrelly took to social media to address his next chapter. He did not name a promotion, but his message made it clear that he remains interested in competing.
“all challengers welcome – s. farrelly 🐺.”
The timing of the post is notable because reports of AEW’s interest had already surfaced before his WWE deal expired. Farrelly spent nearly two decades in the Stamford-based promotion, so a move to another major promotion would give him the chance to work with a new roster while bringing considerable experience from his time at the top of the industry.
AEW Reportedly Has Interest in Signing Sheamus
WrestleVotes Radio, via “Fightful Select,” reported that AEW is expected to have interest in Farrelly now that he is available. The report said there had been no discussions between the two sides at that point, but there was expected to be interest in bringing him in on a full-time deal.
A source also told Fightful that several AEW talents were in favor of Farrelly joining the promotion. No timeline for a potential move was reported, and there is currently no indication that he has agreed to terms with All Elite Wrestling.
Farrelly would not be the first longtime WWE name to make the jump. Adam Copeland and Ricochet are among the former WWE stars who have joined AEW, while Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods recently arrived in the promotion.
For now, AEW remains a possibility rather than a confirmed destination. Farrelly’s first message as a free agent suggests he is ready to keep wrestling, and with the Tony Khan-led promotion reportedly interested, his next move could give him an entirely different setting for the next stage of his career.
