The Kansas City Chiefs have climbed back to elite status this season after a disappointing 2025 campaign that saw them miss the playoffs. The team is now off to a 2-0 start after beating the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
Against the Colts on Sunday, Kansas City survived in overtime and secured a 33-30 win. Patrick Mahomes delivered a standout performance, throwing for 382 yards and three touchdowns, as the Chiefs repeatedly answered the Colts’ biggest plays.
In the end, it was Harrison Butker who sealed the Chiefs’ win by drilling a 40-yard field goal as the clock expired in overtime.
Kenneth Walker III also played a crucial role with 117 rushing yards on 24 carries and 61 receiving yards, including a 22-yard reception that put Kansas City in position for Butker’s game-winner.

Following the Chiefs’ win, former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky shared his observations about Andy Reid’s team. The now-ESPN analyst had major praise for Kansas City’s much-improved offense, highlighting that it’s no longer just reliant on Mahomes’ playmaking.
“The Chiefs are no longer 1-dimensional,” Orlovsky wrote on social media.
In the video that he shared, Orlovsky explained that it’s the “most believable” offense that the Chiefs have had in years because of how they are incorporating their run actions with their passing game.
“This is something that I feel we’ve been begging for, and it happened Week 1,” Orlovsky further stated in the video. “Are you going to do it again? And they do it again. And you’re marrying your run and your formation and your run actions and you’re putting legs in on them. And that’s what I mean by believable. Like, you’re selling me to something that I truly can buy into.”
This early-season adjustment has worked so far for Kansas City. By combining the run with convincing play-action and varied formations, the Chiefs’ offense has shown a new dimension that could make it difficult for opposing defenses to prepare for them.
The Chiefs will face the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 before taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4. This gives Mahomes and company the opportunity to polish their much-improved offense and show everyone that they are legitimate Super Bowl threats once again.
