The 2026 NFL preseason is in full swing.
Games have officially begun for most of the league, with the 2026 NFL regular season less than a month away. While there's not always much to take away from the preseason, football is back, at least.
As we head into the 2026 NFL regular season, ESPN's computer model, the Football Power Index, has made picks for all eight divisions across the league - NFC East, NFC South, NFC West, NFC North, AFC East, AFC South, AFC West, AFC North.

ESPN's computer model, the Football Power Index, has predicted the NFL's eight divisional winners as we head into the first week of the 2026 regular season:
- Buffalo Bills - AFC East
- Baltimore Ravens - AFC North
- Los Angeles Rams - NFC West
- Philadelphia Eagles - NFC East
- Tampa Bay Bucs - NFC South
- Houston Texans - AFC South
- Detroit Lions - NFC North
- Kansas City Chiefs - AFC West
How does the FPI work?
The Football Power Index is a projection-based model, using simulations to predict the most-likely outcomes.
"The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily," the FPI writes.
The FPI updates daily throughout the 2026 NFL regular season, so projections can surely change once the games begin.
