ESPN's "College GameDay" could have a surprise, big-time guest at the start of the 2026 college football season.
The college football pregame show is known for its big guests. The college football pregame show will typically welcome a major celebrity or former athlete onto the desk, to help make picks for that week's biggest games.
Could we have a sitting U.S. President on the show this year?
According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the U.S. Senate has yet to vote on The Protect College Sports Act. The legislation, intended to regulate college athletics, will have to wait until September.
However, U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and Eric Schmitt, who are the leading sponsors of the bipartisan bill that is "aimed at stabilizing college athletics, codifying athlete rules, and addressing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) concerns," as Awful Announcing states, are guaranteeing that a vote will happen. Not only that, they say President Trump will be signing the bill into law live on ESPN.
The statement was released over the weekend.
"The Protecting College Sports Act continues to show great momentum. Sens Cruz and Schmitt have worked tirelessly with the support of nearly every conference in the country, HBCUs and the Olympic sports committee. It’s clear that this bill is the only way to save college sports and womens sports," the statement reads.
"While we are disappointed that we could not get the unanimous consent agreement to finish this week, we locked in a guaranteed vote in September. With the strong support of President Trump, we look forward to him signing the bill on College GameDay in the fall."
Multiple members of ESPN's college football pregame show have praised President Trump, including Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit, so they likely would not be opposed to this.
ESPN, meanwhile, has declined to comment.
