ESPN's College Football Playoff rankings show will continue in 2026.
While some fans have pushed for ESPN to get rid of the show, as it seemingly just creates more controversy than anything, the Worldwide Leader in Sports has decided to keep it for this upcoming season.
The show will stick around for good reason, too. According to The Athletic, about 1.7 million people watched the CFP rankings reveal each Tuesday night during the football season. When that many people are watching the show, it's not going to go away, no matter what kind of controversy it creates.
The College Football Playoff rankings show will start on Tuesday, November 3. There will be six shows, including the final one on December 6.
Not everyone is happy about this.
"This show is useless and no need to have it until the final one. They just make (stuff) up to try and get ratings and it’s a waste of time watching it. They will pick who they want in the final show anyway," one fan wrote.
"No point in watching this," one fan added.
ESPN, though, urged to keep the show
Awful Announcing is among those pushing for ESPN to keep the show, and for good reason.
"College sports, like so much of America, is in a K-shaped economy. The divide between the haves and have-nots is giant. A brand like Notre Dame is used to having its grievances placated. At the very least, they are acknowledged and addressed by the biggest stakeholders in college sports," they wrote.
"Do we need a rankings reveal show? No, but the ratings clearly show that sports fans have made it appointment viewing. They may not always like what they see and hear, but the urgency keeps them coming back. It doesn’t sound like ESPN and the CFP have a problem. Until they do, it will be business as usual when it comes to revealing the weekly rankings."
