Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever are trying to put the chaos surrounding Saturday’s win over the Chicago Sky behind them. Indiana held on for a 90-86 victory after Chicago mounted a late comeback, moving the Fever to 20-12 and fourth place in the WNBA standings.
The game produced plenty of controversy. DiJonai Carrington was ejected after her foul on Sophie Cunningham was upgraded to a Flagrant 2, while Clark received her eighth technical foul of the season after appearing to make accidental contact with an official. Clark’s technical initially put her in line for a one-game suspension.
The WNBA ultimately rescinded Clark’s technical foul, allowing her to remain available for Tuesday’s game against the New York Liberty. The league’s decision became another talking point on ESPN’s WNBA Countdown.
Indiana Fever Fans Upset With Monica McNutt Over Caitlin Clark Comments

The panel appeared to agree with the decision before Monica McNutt offered a different perspective.
“All I’m saying is I have flashbacks to college when my teammate bumped into a coach like this, and it was a problem,” McNutt said on Sunday. “But I think when we analyze it, if Caitlin didn’t say anything, it is marginal, I think rescinding it was fine. But I do understand in the moment how we got here.”
Andraya Carter appeared surprised by the comment before joking that McNutt always finds an objection when the conversation involves Clark and the Fever.
McNutt’s comment drew another wave of criticism from fans on social media.
“I make a deliberate effort to change the channel when she comes on,” one fan wrote.
“She’s so jealous of CC, it’s embarrassing,” another posted.
“She is really a hater,” a third reacted.
“She really will find something in anything even if it’s nothing. Does she know it’s okay to just not?” questioned another.
“Even they are tired of her [expletive]. Lmaooooo,” a fan said.
“Can this woman just admit she hates Caitlin with a burning passion and move on already? We’re all tired,” another added.
This is not the first time McNutt has faced criticism for her comments about Clark. In July, she said Clark needed more “accountability and self-awareness” regarding her role in the WNBA’s “sisterhood” after the three-time All-Star discussed the emotional toll of constant scrutiny.
Clark remains one technical foul away from the league’s automatic suspension threshold. With 12 games remaining, Indiana will hope to keep her available as it pursues home-court advantage in the playoffs.
The Fever host the Liberty at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The game will air on ESPN.
