Eileen Gu was not a fan of a "rude" Winter Olympics reporter's question.
The 22-year-old Chinese skier has totaled two silver medals so far at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Gu, the most-decorated female Olympic skier of all-time, will go for a gold later this week in the women's halfpipe. She was asked by a reporter if it feels like she's "lost" two gold medals or "won" two silvers.
Gu was outraged by the question.
“I’m the most decorated female freeskier in history, I think that’s answer in and of itself,” she replied.
“How do I say this? Winning a medal at the Olympics is a life-changing experience for every athlete. Doing it five times is exponentially harder because every medal is equally hard for me, but everybody else’s expectations rise, right? And so the ‘two medals lost’ situation to be quite frank with you I think is kind of a ridiculous perspective to take. I’m showcasing my best skiing, I’m doing things that quite literally have never been done before, and so I think that is more than good enough. But thank you.”

Gu, a somewhat controversial figure at the 2026 Games - she was born in the U.S. but chose to represent global rival China - but she's being praised for her response to the reporter's question.
Fans praise Gu for her response
"You got to give lots of credit to Eileen Gu for responding brilliantly back to the reporter with great confidence. She looked him in the eye said that was a "ridiculous perspective" without any hesitation or fear," one post read.
Praise poured in, too.
"Great response to a ridiculous question. Eileen is poised and mature beyond her age," one wrote.
"She navigated that with grace bc she REALLY coulda said “How many medals have you gained or lost?? Oh ok 😏,'" one fan added.
"Such an excellent answer to such a horrible question 👍👏❤ These journalists try to frame incredible achievements as "failure" without having an ounce of understanding of what it takes to be even on a stage where "failure" is a possibility," one fan added.
