New England Patriots wide receiver Efton Chism was an unlikely hero for his team Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
With 1:50 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Patriots-Bills game, Chism gave his squad the lead with an incredible one-handed touchdown catch. The undrafted wideout from Eastern Washington received plenty of love from his head coach after the final whistle was blown.
“Nobody works harder,” Patriots coach Mike Vrabel told WEEI. “You love to see players take advantage of opportunities and help the team win. He is very well respected. He practices. He is on the show team. He takes a million reps. Nobody logs more miles or yards or whatever we track than Chism.”
Chism’s girlfriend, Devynn Warns, was at Highmark Stadium this past weekend to watch the Patriots upset the Bills.
As you’d imagine, Devynn lost her mind the moment Chism came down with the go-ahead touchdown catch. She shared a video of her jumping up and down before she yells, “I just peed myself!”
The Bills took a shot at Efton Chism.
Bills defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson felt the need to rain on Chism’s parade once Sunday’s game was over.
“We’re not going to get into any bulletin board material,” Gardner-Johnson said. “An elevated guy made a heck of a catch — probably won’t hear from him again. … A practice squad player made a heck of a play. That’s all I’m going to tell you. You do it again, and he probably won’t make it again.”
The Bills and Patriots will meet again on Dec. 6 at Gillette Stadium.
