Edmundo Sosa gave the Philadelphia Phillies a brief injury scare Sunday, but the infielder did not seem interested in letting it end his regular season.
Sosa tweaked his groin while running out a double in the second inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. After the injury, he delivered a simple message: “Wrap it up,” according to Destiny Lugardo.
The Phillies could certainly use that confidence with the postseason beginning. Sosa stayed in the game and finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Philadelphia’s 7-3 win.
Sosa’s home run came in the fifth inning against Jesse Scholtens, giving him nine homers for the season. He also doubled earlier in the game and scored twice as Philadelphia closed the regular season with a win.
More importantly, Sosa indicated that he expects to be available when the Phillies begin their playoff run. That would be important for Philadelphia after Luis Arraez suffered a left ankle sprain late in the regular season.
Sosa finished the regular season hitting .247, with nine home runs and 44 RBI. His versatility has also allowed Philadelphia to move him around the infield when needed.

The Phillies finished 88-74 and secured their postseason spot with Sunday’s victory. Now Sosa will have a few days to see how the groin responds before Philadelphia opens its Wild Card Series.
For now, his message is straightforward: he expects to be ready.
