Penta could be in line for one of the biggest wins of his WWE career at Money in the Bank. A new report claimed that several people within WWE creative now viewed the former Intercontinental Champion as the “heavy favorite” to win the men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
The report came from WrestleVotes via “Fightful Select,” less than three weeks before the October 10 Premium Live Event in New Orleans. According to the report, Penta’s position as an internal favorite was not part of the plan as recently as SummerSlam.
The change reportedly came after Penta’s World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City. “The OTC” retained the title after a hard-fought main event, but Penta’s performance appeared to leave a strong impression within WWE.
It also noted that the reaction to Penta vs. Reigns had changed the conversation around the luchador, including discussion of bringing the two superstars back together for another match. A separate Fightful report noted several people within WWE creative believed a rematch between Reigns and Penta made sense.
The former AEW star had already made his desire for another shot at Reigns clear after falling short in Mexico City. His next opportunity, however, could come through the Money in the Bank briefcase rather than another immediate championship match.

Penta originally earned his place in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match on the September 21 edition of RAW. He replaced Solo Sikoa in a Triple Threat qualifier after Sikoa was abducted by 946, then defeated Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee to secure the spot.
He joined Bron Breakker, Je’Von Evans and United States Champion Trick Williams as the four confirmed men’s participants at that stage. WWE still has two places left to fill in the six-man ladder match.
The timing gives Penta an interesting path back toward Reigns. The World Heavyweight Champion is already scheduled to defend his title against LA Knight at Money in the Bank after “The Megastar” confronted him following the Mexico City match and hit him with the BFT.
If Penta wins the briefcase, he will have a guaranteed championship contract that could be used at any point during the following year. WWE has not confirmed that Penta will win the match, but the latest report suggests his standing internally has changed significantly since SummerSlam.
