The Philadelphia Eagles always give us a reason to tune in whenever they're getting involved in the NFL offseason and this season is no exception. Today they made a trade, but not for the big name player we've all been thinking about.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a pick swap that will also send Eagles safety Sydney Brown to Atlanta. Per the report, the Eagles will receive picks No. 114 and 197 in this draft while the Falcons receive picks No. 122 and 215.
"A Falcons-Eagles trade, per ESPN sources: Falcons and Eagles swapped fourth- and sixth-round picks, with Atlanta also acquiring S Sydney Brown. Picks No. 114 and 197 to the Eagles in exchange for picks No. 122, 215 and Sydney Brown," Schefter wrote.
Brown isn't exactly Ed Reed, but he's a decent pickup for the Falcons as part of a pick swap. He's a special teams ace who has 86 tackles for the Eagles over the past three seasons.
But Brown's weakness is in coverage with opposing quarterbacks having about an 88.6 passer rating in his direction, per Pro-Football-Reference. Unless Brown is ready to make some massive jump in 2026, the Falcons aren't exactly getting a starting safety.
Victory for who?
It seems like both the Eagles and Falcons are claiming victory in this trade based on the reactions to Schefter's report:
"Eagles dump struggling ex-3rd rounder Sydney Brown Falcons grab cheap safety depth, gaining an extra late pick. Slight win for ATL. Classic Howie flip," one user remarked on X.
"Solid depth move for ATL. Brown's got that instinctive, hard-hitting safety vibe when healthy perfect for the back end if the ACL is fully behind him. Eagles shedding a tiny bit of future cap/creating a roster spot while grabbing slightly better pick value. Win win for a quiet March tweak," wrote another.
"Sorry Falcons fans he kinda sucks," a third wrote.

When fans saw the name "Brown" in the post, they probably hoped it would be disgruntled wide receiver A.J. Brown finally getting moved. But with the Eagles reportedly not budging from their asking price, it might take a while for that to be resolved.
Philadelphia reportedly wants two very high draft picks to part with Brown.
Well, they got two draft picks for the other Brown. Sort of.
