Saturday’s preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots became very scary, very quickly as Eagles running back Ja’Quinden Jackson suffered a terrifying injury on the opening kickoff.
Video of exactly what happened after the Eagles kicked the ball off isn’t available, but Jackson reportedly took a knee to the head from Patriots running back Lan Larison after he dove at Larison’s legs to make a tackle. Jackson was knocked out and remained motionless for some time.
Eagles and Patriots players both went to their knees in concern and Gillette Stadium got very quiet for a while. An ambulance had to come out onto the field to take Jackson off.
Fortunately, the Eagles released a statement a short while after announcing that Jackson has movement in his extremities. He is being taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
“Eagles RB Ja’Quinden Jackson has strength and movement in all extremities and is being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation,” the team said in a statement on X.
Fans are sending Jackson their well-wishes.
Both Eagles fans and Patriots fans have taken to X to offer their thoughts and prayers to Jackson and hope that he didn’t suffer anything serious from the play.
“I really hope he’s ok. No matter what team your support no one wants this to happen to any player. Thoughts and prayers with ja Much love from a pats fan,” one fan wrote on X.
“Glad to hear he has movement in all extremities. hope the hospital checks everything out and he’s okay,” wrote another.
“This Giants fan is praying for that kid. Football is such a violent sport. Hope he gets back on the field with his team soon,” a third wrote.
“Patriots fan here. Thank God.”
Jackson scored 15 touchdowns as a senior at Arkansas in 2024 but went undrafted in 2025 and spent his rookie season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. He was waived by the Jaguars this past May and signed with the Eagles on August 10.
