Jalen Hurts, the Super Bowl-winning star quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, is expected to miss the rest of the season.
The Eagles announced on Monday morning that Hurts has been diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli after further testing on his blood clot diagnosis.
Hurts is clinically stable, according to the team. He will go on blood thinners, which will prevent him from engaging in football activity. Hurts’ longterm prognosis is “very good,” though he will likely miss the rest of the year.

Eagles release statement on Hurts’ diagnosis
“Over the last few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts. In the interest of transparency, we are providing additional information on the diagnosis and treatment plan related to his condition.
“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (i.e. “blood thinners”). During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.
“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.
“We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.”
NFL fans sending their well wishes to Hurts
NFL fans are saddened to hear that Hurts will likely be out for the rest of the year, but it’s good to know that he’ll be OK longterm.
“People don’t get how lucky he’s to be alive. A DVT and a bilateral PE is nothing to joke around about, let alone be in flights and play football. Everyone involved needs to be sue,” one fan wrote.
“Praying for him today,” one fan added.
“I’m really sorry to hear he’s going through all this. Praying for a complete recovery for Jalen,” one fan added on X.
“Wow, this is beyond football. Praying for him. That’s a scary situation. I really hope he can recover, no one deserves this,” one fan added.
The Eagles are scheduled to host the Cowboys on “Monday Night Football” in Week 7.
