The Philadelphia Eagles won’t have dual-threat quarterback Jalen Hurts for the foreseeable future.
Philadelphia ruled out Hurts for this Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers due to to a superficial blood clot. It was later reported that he’d be out of action until his medical situation is resolved.
“Jalen played without limitation in the game Sunday, received treatment on Monday and Tuesday, and practiced in full on Wednesday, as reflected in the practice report. Throughout our time in London and this week, we have remained in communication with the league office regarding the matter,” the team said in a statement. “On Wednesday night, a follow-up ultrasound revealed movement in the small blood clot. Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”
Roughly 24 hours later, the Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. This decision was made after they consulted numerous doctors. This move will keep the Super Bowl MVP off the field for at least the next four games.
“Ever since Hurts has been dealing with the superficial blood clot in his calf, the Eagles have been attempting to explore every option and gather as much information as possible. Hurts has met with doctors, had others review his blood clot and weigh in with their knowledge,” Rapoport wrote. “Some time over the last 24 hours, additional information surfaced that made Philadelphia believe the wisest course of action was to place Hurts on IR, giving him the time he needs to heal.”

Who’ll step up at quarterback?
It’s already been determined that Tanner McKee will start against the Panthers. He’s already made two career starts, completing 54-of-88 pass attempts for 597 yards with five touchdowns and an interception.
The Eagles added some insurance by signing quarterback Joe Milton off the Cowboys’ practice squad. It’s also possible they bring back Andy Dalton later this year.
“Andy Dalton is an option to return for the Eagles,” Garafolo said. “He’s had a few teams check in with him since the team released him, per sources, though there’s familiarity and a clear role in Philly for him if he decides to return.”
For now though, McKee will lead Nick Sirianni’s passing attack.
