Heading into Week 3, there was some worry regarding the status of star wide receiver DeVonta Smith for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Smith missed the first practice of the week with a hamstring injury, which was cause for concern because Smith had also dealt with a hamstring injury during training camp. But, Eagles fans can now breath a sigh of relief.
DeVonta Smith Cleared to Play Against Bears on Monday Night Football
After missing the first practice of the week, Smith participated in the next two practices, and he was officially designated as “available” for the game against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
This is obviously great news for the Eagles, as Smith is the team’s top receiver following the offseason departure of A.J. Brown. On the season so far, Smith has 13 receptions for 170 yards and a touchdown.
Plus, the Eagles will already be missing a pair of pass-catchers for the game against the Bears in Dallas Goedert (knee) and Hollywood Brown (ankle), so Smith should see plenty of targets.
DeVonta Smith Could Make Eagles History Against Bears
Now that he’s definitely going to be available, Smith will have an opportunity to make some Eagles franchise history against the Bears on Monday night. Smith is currently tied with A.J. Brown for 12th-most TD receptions in Eagles history with 32.
So, if Smith scores a touchdown against the Bears, he’ll break the tie with Brown and claim the No. 12 spot on Philadelphia’s all-time TD list for himself.
Smith needs just three more TD receptions to tie DeSean Jackson (35) and move into the top 10 in franchise history.
