During the 2026 NFL season, no team has been hit harder with injuries than the Philadelphia Eagles. Star players on offense like Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and Landon Dickerson have all missed time this year.
Another name on that list is No. 1 wide receiver DeVonta Smith. The sixth-year Eagle had rarely missed any games during the first five years of his career, but has been absent for two of his team’s six contests thus far in 2026.
Smith had been dealing with a lingering hamstring injury, and returned to play Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. He recorded seven catches for 75 yards and a touchdown while playing with backup quarterback Tanner McKee.

However, leading up to Monday night’s game at home versus the Dallas Cowboys, Smith has yet to practice during the prep week. It has been reported that it is the hamstring problem that is keeping him from action.
On Saturday, head coach Nick Sirianni said that he could not say whether Smith will be placed on injured reserve. The language of “shut down” from reporter Zach Berman is admittedly not all that promising.
Through four games this season, Smith has caught 26 passes for 310 yards and two scores. While he has been on the field, he has not missed a beat from previous seasons. He has simply been unable to stay on the field, however.
His status for Monday’s game seems gloomy at this point, and with the Eagles sitting at 2-4 they could opt to have him sit out for a while. If he is put on the shelf, McKee’s already thin wide receiver corps will become thinner.
Makai Lemon and Hollywood Brown are the team’s top two healthy WRs for the moment with Smith out and Dontayvion Wicks out as well with an ankle injury. Philadelphia may need to lean on the ground game Monday night.
Though they are 2-4, the NFC East is looking to be wide open this year. Perhaps the Eagles, even with all their injuries, could make a run at hosting a Wild Card playoff game.
