The Detroit Red Wings have more options to unload former captain Dylan Larkin amid both sides’ trade situation as the veteran center expanded his list of teams he would accept a trade to.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press’ Helene St. James reported that Larkin has increased his approved trade list to 10 teams, adding the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning, Utah Mammoth and Washington Capitals to it.
Those six join the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild and Vegas Golden Knights, which were reportedly on Larkin’s original list when he requested a trade in June, along with the Dallas Stars, added shortly afterward.
All 10 teams on Larkin’s current list, however, are based in the United States. That detail is notable because Montreal Canadiens fans made it clear they wanted the Habs to push for a Larkin trade when Detroit visited the Bell Centre earlier this month.
Fans chanted “We Want Larkin,” but the Canadiens still do not appear on his approved list. Larkin, however, acknowledged the reception after that game and praised the atmosphere in Montreal.
“It was interesting,” Larkin said back then. “I mean, I never would have imagined that in this building and in my career. But they’re passionate fans. It’s one of the best, the best atmosphere in hockey. They’re knowledgeable, and they love their team. So that’s how I read into it.”

The 30-year-old remains under contract through the 2030-31 season with an $8.7 million cap hit and a full no-trade clause, giving him control over his next destination.
Larkin has one goal and two assists through seven games this season after recording 34 goals and 67 points in 2025-26, his last as the Red Wings captain.
The Seattle Kraken beat Detroit 4-3 on Tuesday shortly after the report of Larkin’s expanded list emerged, with the Red Wings next facing the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday at 10 p.m. ET.
