Dylan Larkin has given the Detroit Red Wings more flexibility to pursue a trade as uncertainty surrounding the former captain continues days before the new season.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday’s episode of the “32 Thoughts” podcast that Larkin has expanded the list of teams he is willing to join as Detroit keeps exploring possibilities during the final days of the preseason and training camp.
”One of the things I heard about Larkin is that there are more teams that he’s willing to go to than what have been reported,” Friedman said. “I think some of the other teams there are Colorado, Washington, and I suspect, in case people didn’t know them already, Dallas and Tampa.”
The update potentially brings the number of acceptable destinations to eight. Florida, Minnesota and Vegas were the first three franchises included in Larkin’s trade list. The former Red Wings captain, however, declined to confirm any of those destinations when he reported to camp.
Larkin requested a trade at the start of the offseason after Detroit missed the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season. He holds a full no-movement clause in his eight-year, $69.6 million contract, giving him significant control over any potential destination.

Asked about his trade request at the start of camp, Larkin wasn’t ready to fully explain the situation.
“There’s a lot there, a lot of personal stuff in that, and to be honest, I’m not ready to go there yet,” Larkin said. “I understand that there are answers that fans and people that care about this organization around the world want to know, but I’m really not ready to go there.
“I’m here right now, and my focus right now is on the upcoming season with the Detroit Red Wings.”
The Red Wings are scheduled to start the 2026-27 season on Friday, Oct. 2, hosting the New York Rangers at 6:30 p.m. ET.
