Dylan Cease enjoyed a career year in 2026, his first full season with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 30-year-old right-hander posted an 11-6 record with a 2.40 ERA and 239 strikeouts.

His breakout 2026 season came after signing a seven-year, $210 million contract with Toronto in the offseason. His strong campaign earned him his first All-Star selection and puts him in the conversation as one of the leading candidates for the American League Cy Young Award.

Cease reflected on the year in a message to fans on social media after the Blue Jays were eliminated from the postseason.

“Thank you Blue Jays fans for the passionate support you show us!” Cease wrote. “The season didn’t go as planned but I can tell you we are all excited and motivated to come back better next season.”

It was a disappointing season for the Blue Jays, who were just an out away from winning the 2025 World Series nearly a year ago. The team entered 2026 as the defending American League champions and had high expectations for the season.

Unfortunately, injuries and a lack of consistency led to a 79-83 record. Toronto was officially eliminated on September 23 with a 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

The team placed Cease on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation also on Sept. 23 after dealing with lower velocity late in the season. It was the second IL stint of the year for Cease. He went on the IL with a left hamstring strain in May and returned on June 9.

Cease will head into the offseason with the Blue Jays looking to return to the postseason in 2027.
