Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon at UFC 329 ended in disaster, as a knee injury just 69 seconds into the welterweight main event resulted in his TKO loss to Max Holloway. In the aftermath of his injury and lackluster UFC return, McGregor’s former rival Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier offered his unfiltered perspective on the fight and what he thinks of the Irish superstar's future.
Appearing on the "Deep Waters" podcast, Poirier didn’t mince words about the injury that cut McGregor's comeback short.
"I thought it couldn't have happened to a better guy," Poirier said, half-joking. "That injury couldn't have happened to a better guy."
Poirier Fires Back at McGregor
Poirier also referenced McGregor’s reaction to Poirier’s recent arrest. McGregor recently reacted to Poirier’s public drunkenness charge on an episode of Smash Cast:
In the podcast episode, McGregor advised Poirier, “Karma is a mirror. It’s not good to see. If I were to say something to him, I would say, take this with absolute seriousness. Do not engage with people.”
Poirier, however, believed his advice was more hypocritical than it was heartfelt.
“I saw earlier this week he said karma is a mirror and it definitely is, man,” Poirier said to his "Deep Waters" co-hosts. “This guy's a dirt bag.”
When asked by Din Thomas to confirm his promise, Poirier did not hesitate, even naming his desired weight class.
"I'll come back and whoop him again at 170,” he declared, interested in a welterweight comeback.
