Duke's fantastic 2025-26 college basketball season came to a shocking end on Sunday.
For a while, it looked like Duke was going to do just enough to get past UConn and advance to the Final Four, but UConn's Braylon Mullins had other ideas. The Huskies stole the ball from the Blue Devils, leading to Mullins draining a three-pointer from the logo.
The shot went in with less than a second left on the clock, giving the Huskies a 73-72 lead. That would end up being the final score since the Blue Devils couldn't get a shot off to end the game.
It's the second-straight year that Duke has lost an NCAA Tournament game in heartbreaking fashion after losing to Houston in the Final Four last year. Duke had that game all but won, then gave it away.
After the loss, the Duke men's basketball team's official Instagram account posted a picture of the team, thanking the players for the season. Duke won the ACC regular-season and tournament titles before being named the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
This was Jon Scheyer's fourth season as Duke's head coach, and he has compiled a 124-25 overall record. This was his second-straight season of at least 35 wins.
Scheyer has guided the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons as head coach since taking over for Mike Krzyzewski. The Blue Devils will look to recharge for the 2026-27 college basketball season, which starts in the fall.
