Drew McIntyre’s WWE return is coming. Just don’t expect him to circle a date on the calendar yet.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, McIntyre reiterated that WWE remains “home,” but the former world champion is enjoying an unprecedented break from wrestling while building an increasingly impressive acting résumé.
“I’ll be back eventually,” McIntyre said, adding that another opportunity could delay his return. “When the time is right, WWE is home.”

What Drew McIntyre Has Been Doing Away From WWE
McIntyre has been absent since WrestleMania 42, but hardly inactive.
After previously appearing alongside Dave Bautista in 2024’s “The Killer’s Game,” McIntyre filmed the upcoming “Highlander” reboot, playing Angus opposite Henry Cavill. The Chad Stahelski-directed film, which also features Russell Crowe and Bautista, is expected in 2027.
That project led directly to another opportunity. After meeting Crowe on “Highlander,” McIntyre was personally recruited for “The Last Druid” and spent nearly three months filming in Barcelona. WWE President Nick Khan and Paul “Triple H” Levesque approved the opportunity, with McIntyre saying Crowe became a mentor whose lessons could also improve his WWE work. “The Last Druid” does not yet have a confirmed release date.
McIntyre also stars in WWE and ReelShort’s “Agent of Shadows,” premiering October 23, alongside Jacob Fatu, Joe Hendry, Booker T and others. He will then voice a character in Disney’s “Hexed,” which hits theaters November 25.
McIntyre Is Already Preparing for His WWE Return
Whenever McIntyre does return, he may be physically more imposing than ever. He told Van Vliet he has increased from roughly 275 pounds before WrestleMania to 285, despite increasing his cardio, and recently generated millions of views with footage of himself running the ropes.
It’s good to see McIntyre getting these opportunities, especially after the work he was doing before his hiatus. I thought he was producing the best work of his career, and after six months away, a refreshed, 285-pound McIntyre returning with even more confidence as a performer could be special.
I’m looking forward to his return. More importantly, I don’t think we’ve seen his best yet.
