Draymond Green appears to be doing his part to bring LeBron James to Golden State.
The four-time NBA champion forward has officially declined his player option for the 2026-27 season. This could open the door to allow LeBron James to sign into Golden State's cap space for next season.
ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news.
"Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is declining his $27.7 million player option to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. This move gives the Warriors flexibility to pursue LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade to form a Big 4," he reported on Monday.
The Warriors have reportedly expressed interest in bringing both LeBron James and Anthony Davis to Golden State.
Yahoo! Sports' Kevin O'Connor reported on Sunday evening that the Warriors are looking to trade for Davis and sign LeBron in free agency.
Details emerge from Golden State's big pursuit
The Warriors reportedly believe that trading for Davis could be the key to signing LeBron James this offseason.
"The Warriors are attempting to trade for Wizards big Anthony Davis and then sign Lakers free-agent forward LeBron James, according to multiple league sources. A trade for Davis would have to include Jimmy Butler, who is on an expiring $57 million contract while recovering from a torn ACL," O'Connor reported.
"The Warriors would also have to include draft capital — they have two future firsts and four first-round swaps to work with in any deal."
The Warriors are reportedly chasing "one more" championship.
"Sources say the Warriors hope adding Davis would help lure LeBron from Los Angeles to the Bay Area once free agency officially opens Tuesday. The pitch would be simple: reunite with AD, team up with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, play for Steve Kerr, and chase one more championship with a roster of legends."
