Drake Maye and the New England Patriots rode an easy schedule all the way to the Super Bowl last season. Maye was the runner-up in the 2025 NFL MVP voting. The Patriots lost to the Seahawks in blowout fashion, but there was a major sense of optimism moving forward.
That sense has gone away quickly.
The Patriots fell to the Seahawks in the NFL’s season-opening game. The Patriots bounced back with a home win over the Steelers in Week 2. However, in Week 3, they’re facing the Jaguars, and the struggles are mounting.

Maye, who threw a game-losing interception against the Seahawks in Week 1, threw a brutal, disastrous red zone interception against the Jaguars at the end of the first half on Sunday.
The Patriots quarterback has now thrown five interceptions on the year.
NFL fans growing concerned with Drake Maye
NFL fans are growing concerned with Maye’s performance this year.
“Pats fans were telling eagles fans AJ finally got a real QB😭😭😭,” one fan wrote.
“Drake maye when he has to play actual competition,” one fan added.
“Ok, I’m freaking out,” one fan added.
“So this schedule merchant is supposed to be better than a former All Pro super bowl mvp?” one fan added.
It’s still early in the season – and early in Maye’s NFL career – but perhaps this is more of who he is as a player, rather than the MVP-level player we saw for much of the 2025 season. Of course, the biggest likelihood is that he’s somewhere in the middle.
Still, Patriots fans have reason to be concerned right now, based on his play.
