The Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm has been on a hot streak since the second half of the season began. In August, he’s slashing .378/.420/.527 with 16 RBIs and a .947 OPS. He played hero with a walk-off, two-run triple in the 10th inning of Friday’s 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Two days later, Bohm was out of the Phillies lineup for the series finale.
Luis Arraez was also held out Sunday, dealing with lower-body cramps, though interim manager Don Mattingly indicated a slight concern about the second baseman, as he’s managed hamstring cramps throughout his career, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Arraez has appeared in just 17 games for the Phillies, with a .315 batting average and 11 RBIs.
Bohm is getting a day off as the 30-year-old is also managing cramps in his hamstring and groin.
Bohm’s surge has seemingly come out of nowhere, considering how he started the first half of the season batting .215 with 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and 56 strikeouts. He’s turned into a completely different player, batting .336 with three home runs and 28 RBIs in 33 games so far. It looks like Mattingly is trying to play it safe with Bohm by giving him a rest day, but with the news to Arraez, Bohm may still enter the game, Gelb reported.
