Shohei Ohtani added another historic achievement to his remarkable 2026 season on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Dodgers star continues to produce at an elite level as both a hitter and a pitcher.
His latest accomplishment came after another dominant month on both sides of the ball. It also marked something he never achieved during his six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
The milestone reflects how successful Ohtani's return as a full-time two-way player has been. It also adds another chapter to one of the most unique careers in Major League Baseball.
OptaSTATS reported that Ohtani became the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit at least eight home runs while posting a 3-0 or better pitching record in the same calendar month. No player had previously matched that combination of offensive production and success on the mound.
The 31-year-old is in his third season with the Dodgers. He is a three-time Most Valuable Player, a five-time All-Star, and a World Series champion.
Ohtani entered July batting .296 with 18 home runs, a .954 OPS, and 50 RBIs. He also owns an 8-2 record with a 1.58 ERA and 86 strikeouts across 79 2/3 innings on the mound.

The Dodgers entered July with a commanding lead in the National League West. Ohtani has remained the centerpiece of the lineup while continuing to strengthen the rotation.
Los Angeles recently pushed Ohtani's next scheduled pitching start from Wednesday to Friday against the San Diego Padres. Manager Dave Roberts said the decision was driven by the schedule and designed to give Ohtani additional rest before the All-Star break.
