James Tibbs III earned another distinction in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization after being named the Oklahoma City Comets’ Player of the Year following a historic Triple-A campaign.
The outfielder led Oklahoma City in home runs, RBIs, walks, total bases, on-base percentage and OPS. His production helped establish him as one of the standout hitters in the Pacific Coast League during the 2026 season.
The award also adds to Tibbs’ growing case for a potential major-league opportunity. However, the Dodgers have not confirmed that he will join their big-league roster for Opening Day in 2027.
Tibbs finished the season batting .287 with 30 home runs, 107 RBIs and 109 runs scored across 141 games. He also recorded a .409 on-base percentage, a .532 slugging percentage and a .941 OPS, giving him a productive combination of power and plate discipline.
His walk total was particularly notable. Tibbs drew 108 walks, led the Pacific Coast League in that category and finished the season among its top hitters in several offensive categories. He also recorded 150 hits and 65 extra-base hits.

The most unusual part of Tibbs’ season was his combination of run production and plate discipline. He became the first Pacific Coast League player since Greg Brock in 1982 to record at least 100 RBIs, 100 runs and 100 walks in one season. That achievement gave his campaign historical significance beyond his individual award.
Tibbs was selected 13th overall by the San Francisco Giants in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Florida State. His professional career has already included two trades. The Boston Red Sox acquired him in the June 2025 deal involving Rafael Devers, before sending him to Los Angeles in July as part of the trade for pitcher Dustin May.
The Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate also finished the season with another Pacific Coast League championship, further strengthening the organization’s minor-league results. Los Angeles finished the major-league regular season 100-62 and won the National League West, giving the club a strong foundation as it continues developing its next wave of talent.
Tibbs now enters the offseason after a season that strengthened his standing in the organization. A major-league call-up remains a possibility, but his next assignment will depend on the Dodgers’ roster decisions and plans for their outfield. His 2026 production has given the organization plenty to consider heading into spring training.
