DK Metcalf’s status for Sunday’s matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is uncertain after the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver missed Friday’s practice because of an illness. Metcalf is listed as questionable, creating another concern for quarterback Aaron Rodgers with Pittsburgh already short on receiving options.
According to Brooke Pryor of ESPN, Metcalf missed practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday’s game. The Steelers have already ruled out wide receivers Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek, while Michael Pittman Jr. remains on injured reserve.
The timing is particularly difficult for Pittsburgh, which enters the Week 6 matchup with a 3-2 record. The Steelers are looking to maintain their position in the AFC North, but Metcalf’s availability could affect their offensive plans against Tampa Bay.
Metcalf has recorded 19 receptions for 225 yards through five games this season. He has been a key receiving option for Rodgers, who has thrown for 1,234 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 59.8% of his passes.
Without Metcalf, Pittsburgh would have fewer established options at wide receiver. Rookie Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen are among the available receivers who could take on larger roles if the veteran cannot play.

The Steelers also will be without safety DeShon Elliott against Tampa Bay. Elliott, who has been recovering from a hamstring injury suffered last season, will not be activated from injured reserve in time for Sunday’s game. His absence leaves Pittsburgh without another defensive contributor as the team prepares for the road matchup.
Pittsburgh faces a Buccaneers team that enters the game at 1-4, according to the supplied standings. Tampa Bay also has injury concerns, with quarterback Baker Mayfield ruled out because of a thumb injury, adding another variable to Sunday’s contest.
Metcalf’s status remains the immediate concern for the Steelers. His questionable designation does not confirm that he will miss the game, but Pittsburgh will need to prepare for either outcome as it finalizes its plans for Sunday.
