Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is pretty known for some of his “unique” ideas about the world. Apparently that’s rubbed off on his star wide receiver, D.K. Metcalf. And if you don’t believe it, just as Metcalf himself.
Jonathan Jones of The Athletic did, and in an interview with Metcalf, the Pro Bowl wide receiver declared that he’s a “big conspiracy theorist” and appreciates Rodgers for being a like-minded individual.
“Yeah, I’m a big conspiracy theorist. Shout out to my quarterback.”
His conspiracy theory of choice is that “there is another civilization inside of Earth” and that civilization is possibly based somewhere in Antarctica.
“I think there is another civilization inside of Earth,” Metcalf said.
Metcalf’s Deepest Theory
Metcalf seemed to take issue with the fact that people can go to Alaska and the North Pole but not Antarctica. However, he doesn’t seem to be aware that there is plenty of tourism to the frigid continent, mostly by ships from South America but sometimes via flight from New Zealand.
“You can go to Alaska. You could go to the North Pole,” Metcalf said in the interview. “But why not Antarctica? Why can’t you just book a trip to Antarctica?”
Metcalf also believes that there are “secret meetings” between world leaders in Antarctica taking place.
“Why is there a secret meeting — well, it’s not secret but why is there a meeting between every world leader of every country in Antarctica, specifically?” he asked.
While there are regular meetings between countries that are part of the Antarctic Treaty System, meeting minutes and reports are readily available online and there isn’t evidence to suggest that world leaders themselves (as opposed to standard delegates) are doing anything other than discussing administrative issues with the massive continent, most of which is used for research purposes.

Metcalf did clarify that Rodgers didn’t turn him into a conspiracy theorist as he already believed in this.
As conspiracy theories go, believing in a secret Antarctic civilization and a government coverup is certainly one of the more tame ones. But that hasn’t made people any less frustrated with Metcalf online.
He’s going to need a pretty big season to get people talking more about his football than his theories on Antarctica.
