DiJonai Carrington and the Chicago Sky finished the 2026 WNBA season with a road loss to the Washington Mystics, missing out on the playoffs once again after ending with a 16-28 record. Now, the Sky will watch on as the league’s top teams, such as the Las Vegas Aces, Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream hope to make a run at the WNBA championship.
Carrington, in her first season with Chicago, was limited to just 11 games in 2026. She was forced to miss the first 27 games of the season after undergoing ankle/foot surgery in April. Upon her return, Carrington averaged 8.8 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Sky, before missing the remainder of the season after leaving August 25’s game against the Connecticut Sun.
Now, as the Sky enter the offseason, Carrington sees her one-year, $650,000 contract come to an end, becoming an unrestricted free agent, which doesn’t officially begin until February.

On Tuesday, just a few days after Chicago’s regular-season finale against the Washington Mystics last Thursday, Carrington made her way to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to attend the Fever’s 99-89 Game 2 win over the Aces, which forced a Game 3. The former Baylor Bears star was seen wearing a Jackie Young Aces jersey, supporting her close friend.
Carrington also had a notable incident during the Sky’s 90-86 loss to the Fever, one that Indiana fans did not take kindly to. She intentionally fouled Sophie Cunningham on a fast-break layup, sending the Fever guard to the floor before being ejected on a Flagrant 2 foul.
While free agency is still a ways off, Carrington’s decision to show up in an Aces jersey at Game 2 in Indiana could be a sign she’s considering signing with the defending champions to join her friend next season. But the Sky guard has not ruled out a return to Chicago just yet.
“There’s a lot of things to look at,” Carrington said. “Look at who’s on the roster, look at health, different things like that. “But I enjoyed my time here, and I would never say no. But you never know. I am on a one-year (contract).”
The Fever will face the Aces in Game 3 on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
