When the Chicago Sky played the Indiana Fever on Aug. 9, guard DiJonai Carrington was ejected following her hard foul on Sophie Cunningham. Aside from the backlash Carrington received for her actions during the game and after her ejection, what stood out about the whole situation was the WNBA veteran’s message.
For those who missed it, Carrington circled their rematch with the Fever on her calendar. On X, she posted “8/23,” indicating that she was looking forward to playing Indiana again.
Come Sunday’s game, however, Carrington failed to live up to the hype she had built heading into the contest. Not only did the Sky get blown out by the Fever 113-90, but Carrington also didn’t play well.
The 28-year-old guard played 18 minutes and tallied just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting, along with three rebounds, one assist and one block. She was a -5 in the plus-minus box score, highlighting her struggles in the loss.
On the other hand, Caitlin Clark exploded for 37 points on a career-high 8-of-12 shooting from deep, along with 10 assists. The Fever playmaker made history, as she extended her record for the most 30-point, 10-assist games to five.

Following Carrington’s performance, fans quickly went back to her post on X to remind her about her poor play.
“You got cooked,” Pacers Muse wrote. Another critic stated, “This aged well.”
“8/23!” a poster added while sharing a screenshot of Clark’s stats.
A popular Caitlin Clark fan account, called Clark Report, also wrote “8/23” to remind Carrington of her post.
“We had it all wrong. Dijonai was saying Caitlin Clark would drop 8 threes and the Chicago Sky would get blown out by 23 points. It was never about the date 8/23…” a commenter took notice.
“CC hit 8 threes and they lost by 23!!!!!” a sixth poster exclaimed.
It’s certainly a disappointing night for Carrington and the Sky. Making matters worse, the team was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
