Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington has spoken out about her situation as she enters free agency this offseason.
For the third straight season, the Sky missed the playoffs after finishing 16-28 in the regular season and placing 10th in the standings.
Chicago played its last game on Thursday, suffering a 101-93 road loss to the Washington Mystics.
The Sky have an interesting offseason ahead as they look to potentially revamp and bounce back in 2027. One situation the front office must address is Carrington’s future with the team, as her one-year, $650,000 contract expires.
Carrington played only 11 games this year because of a lingering foot injury. She missed the first 27 games of the season after undergoing a procedure on her left foot during the offseason. She made her season debut in July, but the injury resurfaced. Carrington missed more time and was eventually shut down for the remainder of the season.
The 5-foot-11 guard spoke to reporters Friday, saying she’s open to staying in Chicago.
“There’s a lot of things to look at,” Carrington said, via Chicago State of Mind Sports. “Look at who’s on the roster, look at health, different things like that.
“But I enjoyed my time here, and I would never say no. But you never know. I am on a one-year (contract).”

Carrington averaged 8.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game off the bench this season.
The 2024 WNBA Most Improved Player started her career with the Connecticut Sun as a second-round pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. She spent four seasons with the Sun before the team traded her to the Dallas Wings in February 2025.
The Wings traded Carrington mid-season, sending her to the Minnesota Lynx. She signed with the Sky as a free agent ahead of the 2026 season.
