The Arizona Diamondbacks saw their momentum halted Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays after falling behind early in the game.
Toronto scored eight of its 10 runs in the first inning alone, putting Arizona in a deficit it could not recover from, scoring just four scattered runs over the following six innings.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Diamondbacks, who had been building some offensive and defensive rhythm of late and entered the series finale with a 13-8 record.
As if the game hadn't started badly enough, there was even worse news midway through it as outfielder Corbin Carroll was forced to leave early and before the fifth inning.

Carroll went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and appeared uncomfortable during his second at-bat. He was replaced defensively by Jorge Barrosa as Arizona attempted to regroup.
The team later announced that Carroll left due to low back tightness, and his removal and potential time missed going forward raised concern.
Carroll has been one of Arizona’s most productive hitters this season. Over the past 10 games, spanning two weeks and including Sunday's, he is slashing .333/.404/.619 with a home run, eight RBI, 10 runs scored and two stolen bases.
Despite the early exit and the initial concern, the outlook improved after the game following manager Torey Lovullo's update on Carroll's status.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Alex D’Agostino, Lovullo confirmed that Carroll will return to the lineup Tuesday, not missing any time.
“Torey Lovullo said Corbin Carroll will start in right field on Tuesday,” D’Agostino reported.
Arizona opens a new series against the Chicago White Sox following an off day Monday, with the first pitch scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET.
