The Arizona Diamondbacks made multiple roster moves before Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, placing veteran outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a right adductor strain. The club also recalled Adrian Del Castillo from Triple-A Reno to fill the open roster spot.
Gurriel's latest injury is another setback for Arizona as it continues navigating an injury-filled season. The 32-year-old has struggled at the plate this year, batting .207 with two home runs and 20 RBIs after returning from previous stints on the injured list.
The Diamondbacks announced two additional transactions, selecting the contract of right-handed pitcher Gerardo Carrillo before immediately optioning him to Triple-A Reno. The move gives Arizona another player on its 40-man roster while maintaining pitching depth.
Del Castillo returns after producing at Triple-A Reno following his previous stint with the Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old hit .185 with five home runs and 23 RBIs during his earlier time in the majors this season before finding his rhythm back in Reno.
Arizona hopes the left-handed hitter can provide an offensive boost while Gurriel recovers. His recent production in the minors earned him another opportunity to contribute as the Diamondbacks continue their push through the second half.

The Diamondbacks entered Saturday with a 49-48 record, sitting second in the National League West while trying to remain firmly in the Wild Card race. Injuries have forced the club to rely on its organizational depth throughout the season.
With Gurriel sidelined once again, Arizona will look to Del Castillo and the rest of its young contributors to help keep the offense productive. The latest roster moves reflect the club's effort to remain competitive despite another significant injury setback.
