Where would the Arizona Diamondbacks be without Corbin Carroll?
The 25-year-old outfielder further confirmed his status as a bona-fide superstar with an electric hot streak over his past six games. For his efforts, Carroll was named the National League Player of the Week for August 10 to August 16.
This is the third time Carroll received the honor in his career, having previously won Player of the Week in June 2023 and August 2024.
In the American League, Pete Alonso of the Baltimore Orioles won the award.
Corbin Carroll’s Extra Bases Binge
Carroll has been well-known for an elite combination of speed and power, with the uncanny ability to pick up extra-base hits. This season, he has 15 triples while nobody else has more than seven, and he recently became MLB’s active leader in three-baggers with 58 and counting.
But even with this player profile, what the 25-year-old put up over the past week was nothing short of remarkable. Carroll tallied nine hits in 22 at-bats, and seven of them went for extra bases: three doubles, two triples and two home runs. Over the D-backs’ six games, Carroll recorded an extra-base hit in all but the last.
In Arizona’s series finale against the Colorado Rockies and their first two games against the Atlanta Braves, Carroll recorded two hits in each contest. He came halfway towards hitting for the cycle in all three: the lefty hit a triple and homer on Wednesday, a single and double on Friday, and a double and triple on Saturday. Despite being held to a single on Sunday, Carroll legged out a stolen base for good measure.
Ultimately, Carroll finished the week slashing .409/.519/1.000 with a .603 wOBA and 289 wRC+. To make things even more impressive, the outfielder drew four walks (one of them intentional) and struck out just twice.
One of those extra-base hits was also a career milestone for Carroll. When he took Rockies reliever Brennan Bernardino deep on Wednesday, the 25-year-old circled the bases for the 100th time. Carroll is the only player in MLB history to hit 50 or more triples, hit 100 or more home runs and steal 100 or more bases in his first 650 career games.
The D-backs saw mixed results over the week despite Carroll’s heater, as they took two of three in Atlanta yet dropped two of three at home against the Rockies. Nonetheless, Arizona is just one game out of a Wild Card spot in the National League, and Carroll is the key to their success with his .834 OPS, 59 extra-base hits, 17 stolen bases, 12 Defensive Runs Saved and 4.2 fWAR.
Carroll will look to continue his electrifying play as the D-backs visit the Boston Red Sox in a three-game set beginning tonight.
