DeWanna Bonner is officially a member of the Atlanta Dream. The team announced her signing on Thursday, sharing a post to welcome her to the squad.
Bonner, for her part, made sure to first bid farewell to the Phoenix Mercury, the team she left this season to join a contender.
The 39-year-old Bonner reached a buyout agreement with the Mercury after they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Phoenix allowed the WNBA veteran to leave so that she could join a contender in a bid to compete for a championship in what could be her final season in the league.
Bonner has nothing but appreciation for the Mercury, with whom she started her career in 2009 as the team’s fifth overall pick. Bonner rejoined Phoenix in 2025 after a brief stint with the Indiana Fever and after five years with the Connecticut Sun.

“Phoenix… Thank You,” Bonner wrote. “To my teammates, coaches, staff, and the fans who became family, THANK YOU. All the love you’ve shown me and my family is something I’ll carry with me forever.”
She added, “This place will always hold a special place in my heart. No matter where this journey takes me, I’ll never forget the love, support, and every memory we shared here. Forever grateful. Forever love.”
Bonner played in 37 games for the Mercury this season and started in 26. She averaged 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
Now, she joins a playoff-bound Dream squad that boasts a Big 3 of Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese. She is expected to provide Atlanta with a boost off the bench, as well as a veteran voice as the team tries to contend for the WNBA championship.
