The Baltimore Ravens kick off their season six days from now on the road against the Indianapolis Colts, and expectations are once again sky-high.
A major reason for those expectations is the tandem of quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry. Both players remain near the top of their respective positions as they head into their third season together.
So far, however, Henry and Jackson have fallen short of their ultimate goal of a Super Bowl. Baltimore lost in the divisional round in the 2024 season before missing the playoffs last season with an 8-9 record.
The frustration and pressure are at an all-time high for the Ravens to win, and to win now, with both players. Henry admitted as much during an appearance on “The Lounge” podcast on Monday.
“It would be crazy for me to say I played with Lamar Jackson and we didn’t win no championships,” Henry said. “I cannot have that. I do not want that to be a thing. We’ve gotta do it.”
“I want to win a Super Bowl. That’s a big motivation. I just want to be able to feel that feeling. I’m tired of watching. Every year, I’m tired of being at home on the couch watching. I want to be a part of it. That’s what’s motivating me right now. I’m going to keep going until we get to that point. We have the 2026 season to get that accomplished.”
Henry and Jackson Still Chasing the Ultimate Goal
Henry has accomplished just about everything a running back can throughout his career, earning the nickname “King Henry” along the way. The 32-year-old is a five-time Pro Bowler, a two-time NFL rushing champion and the 2020 Offensive Player of the Year, when he rushed for more than 2,000 yards. He also won the Heisman Trophy during his college career at Alabama.
But a Super Bowl has eluded him throughout his illustrious career.
The same can be said for Jackson. The Ravens’ quarterback is a two-time NFL MVP, a three-time First-Team All-Pro and a Heisman Trophy winner. He also broke the NFL’s single-season rushing record for a quarterback with 1,206 yards in 2019.
If both players want to go down as true legends of the game, a Super Bowl is the final hurdle to forever cement their names in football history.
