This friendly has an even greater importance now after DR Congo’s scheduled June 9 game with Chile was called off. Local authorities in Spain cancelled the match because of health concerns linked to the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa, leaving the Leopards with one fewer opportunity to prepare before heading to the United States.

Rather than return home, the Congolese delegation has remained in Belgium throughout its pre-World Cup preparations. Plans for a farewell training camp in Kinshasa were scrapped, with the team choosing to stay in Europe to comply with U.S. entry requirements ahead of the tournament. The squad will travel to the US on June 11 before opening its World Cup campaign against Portugal on June 17.

Denmark has completely different objectives and are entering a period of transition. After falling short in qualification for the World Cup, the Danes are looking to put a disappointing campaign behind them and start building toward the future. Friendly matches like this one offer the perfect opportunity to test new ideas and evaluate players.
